The Anne Frank House sits along Amsterdam’s Prinsengracht canal in a 17th-century canal house where Anne Frank, her family, and four others hid from Nazi persecution for over two years during the German occupation of the Netherlands, an experience Anne famously recorded in her diary.
The museum preserves the actual hiding place, known as the Secret Annex, alongside exhibits on Anne’s life, her diary, and the broader history of the Holocaust; the entrance to the museum is around the corner from the historic house, at Westermarkt 20, about a 20-minute walk from Amsterdam Central Station.
An average visit takes about an hour, though visitors who add the optional 30-minute introductory program before entry should expect closer to 1.5 hours; timed tickets must be booked online in advance, as walk-in entry is not available.
