The Jardín Botánico Carlos Thays is a 7.7-hectare botanical garden in Buenos Aires’ Palermo neighborhood, home to around 1,500 plant and fungal species.
Landscape architect Carlos Thays designed the garden, which opened in 1898 and was later named in his honor; it was declared a National Historical Monument in 1996. Thays also designed several of the city’s other major parks, including Parque 3 de Febrero.
Free to enter, the garden holds five greenhouses, two libraries, a herbarium, and more than thirty sculptures and fountains along its shaded pathways, making it a quiet escape near the former Buenos Aires Zoo.
