The Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse preserves the last intact section of the Wall’s full border system, including the death strip, a surviving watchtower, and the staggered depths of the original fortifications as they stood in the late 1980s.
The site includes an open-air exhibition with four themed stations of historical audio and visual material, a five-story observation tower, a Documentation Center, a Visitor Center screening short films on the Wall’s history, the rebuilt Chapel of Reconciliation, and the Window of Remembrance commemorating those who died at the border.
The outdoor memorial is free and open daily from 8am to 10pm; the Documentation Center, Visitor Center, and observation tower are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10am to 6pm (closed Mondays), with the last tower climb at 5:45pm. Admission is free throughout.
