The Acropolis Museum sits at the foot of the Acropolis and houses roughly 4,000 artifacts recovered from the site, displayed in a glass-and-steel building constructed directly over an excavated ancient neighborhood visible through the floor.
The top-floor Parthenon Gallery is the centerpiece, arranging surviving sculptures and friezes in the same orientation as the original temple, including the original Caryatid columns, replaced on the Erechtheion by casts to protect them from pollution.
A quick visit to the highlights takes about 90 minutes to two hours; art and history enthusiasts can easily spend three to four hours. Hours extend later on Friday evenings and weekends.
