Goa

Goa, India’s smallest state on the western Arabian Sea coast, is the country’s beach capital, blending golden shores, Portuguese colonial heritage, and a famous nightlife and food scene. North Goa is the lively hub, where beaches like Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, and Vagator brim with beach shacks, water sports, markets, and parties, while South Goa offers tranquil sands and luxury resorts at Palolem and Colva.

The UNESCO-listed churches of Old Goa, including the Basilica of Bom Jesus housing the remains of St Francis Xavier, recall four centuries of Portuguese rule. Inland, the towering Dudhsagar Falls and the hilltop Fort Aguada add scenery and history.

The best time to visit is November to February, when the weather is dry and pleasant; this peak season also features the Goa Carnival and the Sunburn electronic music festival in late December.
