Fargo

Fargo anchors North Dakota’s Red River Valley with a mix of Scandinavian heritage, craft breweries, and Midwest hospitality. The Plains Art Museum, the state’s only Smithsonian Affiliate, occupies a renovated International Harvester warehouse downtown, while Bonanzaville recreates a 19th-century pioneer village with more than 40 historic buildings and 400,000 artifacts.

Movie fans can see the original woodchipper from the film Fargo, signed by the Coen Brothers, at the local visitors center. Outdoor activities include kayaking the Red River of the North from Lindenwood Park and catching events at the Fargodome.

The walkable Downtown, Broadway, and Brewhalla districts hold most of the city’s restaurants, breweries, and live music venues. Summer and early fall, roughly June through September, bring the warmest weather and the busiest outdoor season, while winter draws visitors for ice fishing and skiing nearby.
