The Centro Cultural Kirchner occupies the former central post office of Buenos Aires, a Beaux-Arts building designed by French architect Norbert-Auguste Maillart and inaugurated in 1928. Modeled loosely on New York’s City Hall Post Office, the eight-story structure took nearly three decades to complete.

After the postal service moved out in 2002, the building was converted into one of the largest cultural centers in Latin America, reopening in 2015 with roughly 100,000 square meters of galleries, theaters, and performance spaces spread across nine floors, including the acoustically renowned Ballena Azul concert hall.

Access to exhibitions and most performances is free, and the rooftop terrace offers panoramic views over San Nicolas and the Rio de la Plata. The center is located at Sarmiento 151, a short walk from Plaza de Mayo.
