Monumento Natural dos Morros do Pão de Açúcar e da Urca

The Sugarloaf Mountain cable car (Bondinho Pao de Acucar) carries visitors in two stages from Praia Vermelha up to Morro da Urca and then to the 396-meter summit of Sugarloaf Mountain, delivering panoramic views over Rio de Janeiro’s beaches, Guanabara Bay, and Christ the Redeemer. Each three-minute cable car segment departs roughly every 20 minutes, and Morro da Urca, the midway stop, has a cafe, restaurant, snack bar, and a children’s play area worth a stop before continuing to the summit.

Plan for 2 to 3 hours to ride both cable car stages and take in the views from each level. Early morning or late afternoon visits avoid the biggest crowds and offer softer light for photos.
