Universal Studios Florida opened in Orlando on June 7, 1990, built as both a working film and television studio and a movie-themed amusement park to compete with the nearby Walt Disney World Resort. It was the first park at what is now Universal Orlando Resort, later joined by Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay, and Epic Universe.
The park blends classic and modern attractions themed to major entertainment franchises, from E.T. Adventure, the last ride surviving from opening day, to Diagon Alley in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and the high-speed Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit coaster. Live shows and detailed backlot sets reinforce the working-studio theme throughout.
With multiple headline attractions spread across a large park, most visitors plan for a full day to see the major rides and shows; visiting on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday during off-peak months typically means shorter waits.
