The Battery is a 25-acre waterfront park at the southern tip of Manhattan, open daily from 6am to 1am. It’s the departure point for ferries to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, making it one of the busiest green spaces in Lower Manhattan.
Highlights include the SeaGlass Carousel (a shimmering, fish-shaped ride), Castle Clinton (a former fort and current ticket office), waterfront promenades, and gardens with views across New York Harbor toward the Statue of Liberty.
Most visitors spend about an hour walking the park itself, longer if combining it with a ferry trip to Liberty and Ellis Islands, which depart from Castle Clinton.
