Mall of Berlin opened in September 2014 on Leipziger Platz in central Berlin, becoming the largest enclosed shopping center in the German capital with roughly 75,000 square meters of retail space and about 270 stores. The site carries historical weight: it once held the Wertheim department store, which before its wartime destruction was the largest department store in Europe, with a sales floor that expanded to 108,000 square meters and a shopping window facade stretching 330 meters along Leipziger Strasse.
Today’s mall spans roughly 200 stores across multiple levels, anchored by a striking covered piazza that offers views toward the German Bundesrat building next door. Shoppers will find one of Germany’s largest food courts on the second floor, alongside a wide mix of fashion, lifestyle, and specialty retailers, plus about 1,000 parking spaces for visitors arriving by car.
The mall is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm and closed on Sundays, in keeping with Germany’s typical Sunday retail closing laws. Its central location near Potsdamer Platz makes it an easy stop to combine with a day of sightseeing in Berlin’s government and cultural district.
