The East Side Gallery is the longest surviving stretch of the Berlin Wall and the world’s largest open-air mural gallery, running roughly 1.3 kilometers along Muhlenstrasse between Ostbahnhof station and the Oberbaumbrucke bridge. In 1990, 118 artists from 21 countries painted the wall’s east-facing side, producing iconic works such as Dmitri Vrubel’s “Fraternal Kiss” and Birgit Kinder’s “Test the Rest,” which shows a Trabant car breaking through the concrete.
Entry is free and the gallery is accessible around the clock, with no ticket or booking required. Walking the full length typically takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how often visitors stop to read the artist plaques and take photos.
